Arrongance Smallmouth Winner

Bassturds and I went to new spot that we haven't fish before. We was reading from several posts on MAFF that place look so promise for big fish. I mean, smallmouth, not largemouth.
Before I can begin the story,
We was using canoe to fish every inch of this lake. We fished at dropoff, islands, and mostly at 4-8 feet depth.

Anyway, on my first cast, I was able to hooked into 5-6 pounds largemouth bass but hook pulled out when bass jumped out of water. Then, I told Bassturds that I cracked pond's code for the way of fishing style to be used in this lake. He looked at me, said, hell, no way. Then next ten cast, I processed losing several of nice size smallies on same fashion. The big headshakes when they jump out of water. It's game over. Bassturds was angry because he couldn't get any bites when I was consist get 4-5 bites on every cast. He kept changing different lures that his tackle bag has offer. I still using one lure for all day. It has proven hot lure for me. He decided to use same lure as I used but different colors and couldn't buy a bite. He decided to use shiners that we bought in case if we seen some big bass swim in our sight. We want that bragging rights! I was quickly connected my big fish of day. 2.5 pounds smally. Then lost several other bigger smallies than 2.5 pounds. Oh well, that happens. Anyway, we moved across the lake to fish at cove due to winds. On bassturds' first cast with shiner, boom, his personal best smally and tournament winner too! 2.8 pounds smally. After that, he was able to hooked up other two largemouth, sunfish, and yellow perch meanwhile I had 25 basses, 1 pikerel, and 1 white perch. But I had laterally over 300 bites on this day! no kidding at all. Just couldn't capitalize it all.

  • Also, Lets go Bruins!!!

  • haha. Yep. Too light to be bass fishing. I know. But I wanted a challenge to catch them.

However, I used to be catching 10k fish per year. So, I don't care about catching them except raise more challenge for myself. I just love to go fishing. I thought light set up will help me to learn tactical fights on fish. to prevent something like this. Instead using power/strength battle like you do on bass rod.

It is wicked exciting if you got a fish over 4 pounds and it is equal/over the 4 pound line. It make me go nut if I can able to master it. my biggest fish landed on 4 pounds was 22 pound king salmon. So it is not something like many people can say, they master it.

I have Fluorocarbon line, not mono line.

But in general, I just like to feel the excitement on each general things instead focus on one thing like as most people does. Such as catching bunch of different species.

In other note, I have spinning rod set up for bass fishing. 12 pounds regular line. Also, the baitcaster with 30 pounds power pro braid line. But I'll use them when it is necessary. such as tournament or like that.

  • Where you using your ultra light setup with the 4lb mono? If so now I know why they kept shaking off your hook.

  • @ Thorn168 - Yes, I was using tubing. But entirely different way from what Bassturds was fishing. Even though we was using tubes.

Like I said on previous post, It is entirely depend on lure's movements and only one of them is on fire, in which, I have been doing at this day.

  • He was using a tube.
I didn't have his. I didn't have the color he was usin!

  • @deaffisherman, Which lure where you using? How where you fishing it that was different from bassturds?

  • Yeah, lol, that's sound like right. But hey, you have lot to learn about fishing stuffs. first of all,you gotta learn where fish like to hang out during all spring/summer/fall seasons. Then study on your lures movements. For example, if you use senko, there are bunch of different ways to use them. But only one of them will be on fire while other method will be not even though it was just same senko! Once you know all of this, You should know your strength fishing/weak fishing by now. Then try to use your strength fishing on every spot as possible that match with fish's preferences. Then you will get all day banging like I did.

  • I was gettin frustrated cuz every time I looked over my shoulder you were setting the hook..
Couldn't get anything to bite my lures. Only 1 small bass
