Beauty & The Beast

Jen and I set sail around 3:00 pm on Monday afternoon for a little tour of Maspy. We were in the Old Town Canoe with the troller heading down to the farside of the lake- a place I rarely go due to the distance needed to travel. We were enjoying the beautiful afternoon, throwing an occasional cast in new terrain that looked intriguing- no action through about 30 casts. We are on our way back and it's about 4:15pm in the afternoon when I spot a newly fallen tree in deep water (15-20ft). Jen had to be back on the shores by 4:45pm to head out and teach yoga but we decided to stop and give it 10 minutes. Well.... it ended up being 12 due to the beast Jen locked up with on the end of the fallen tree.

Jen is a humble Angler in comparison to me so I was shocked when she arrogantly said, "check out that cast, it's right where I want it" I see her senko land a few feet from the fallen tree and say "nice angle". About 10 seconds later I witness her set the hook like a Pro and start fighting what evers on the end of the rod. After about 15 seconds I see the line dart right and her drag start to run- the rod is majorily bent and I know it could be a special catch. Jen starts cranking the reel, hand over hand to keep the tension on the fish. We see a true lunker surface the water about 15 feet from the boat- Holy $H!T is all that came to mind. The fight continued for a while and finally the fish was near the boat- it gave one more run of desperation before the beast was netted. We took a bunch of pictures and weighed it - 6 pounds and 1 ounce and was 20 inches long. Welcome to the 6 Pound Club! What a fish and fight- one of the best angling moments of my career and tops for Jen. She caught a lunker last August but this is how you upgrade! Way to go Jen!!!
